Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – 23 June 2026: The Rabdan Security and Defence Institute (RSDI) participated in the Global Maritime Economic Conference 2026, organized by the Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA). RSDI’s research fellow, Dr. Wan Zokhri Idris presented an analysis titled “Drawing the Lessons from Bab Al Mandab Securitisation (2024) and Hormuz Blockade (2026) to the future of Straits of Malacca.”
The Conference aims to assemble emerging scholars in a broader series of strategic dialogues in examining geopolitical trends in 2026 and its implication to regional development and global stability. It brought together a distinguished group of experts and practitioners to explore the broader geopolitical, security, and strategic dimensions originating from state and regional actors.
Dr. Wan Zokhri Idris, Research Fellow at the Rabdan Security and Defence Institute (RSDI), was featured together with Kenneth Ong, project researcher from Penang Institute and Dr. Ong Kian Ming, a former Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia.
This session reflects on RSDI’s continued commitment to advancing strategic dialogue and international knowledge exchange, fostering deeper understanding of contemporary security challenges, and supporting the development of more integrated and responsive policy approaches in the Gulf region and beyond.
