RSDI Examines the Implications of the US-Israel War on Iran for Northeast Asia

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – 13 May 2026: The Rabdan Security and Defence Institute (RSDI) successfully convened a high-level closed-door roundtable entitled “US-Israel War on Iran: Implications for Northeast Asia.” The session formed part of the Institute’s broader series of strategic dialogues aimed at examining key geopolitical developments in 2026 and their implications for regional development and global stability.

The roundtable brought together a distinguished group of experts and practitioners to assess the geopolitical, security, and economic consequences of the conflict and its potential impact on Northeast Asia. Discussions focused on how regional and international actors may adapt to evolving strategic realities in an increasingly interconnected security environment.

The session was moderated by Dr. Wan Zokhri Idris, Research Fellow at the Rabdan Security and Defence Institute, and featured prominent experts from leading research and policy institutions, including Dr. Wang Tingyi from the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy, Mr. Hao Nan from The Charhar Institute, Mr. Tomoaki Yoshida from the National Institute for Defence Studies, Ms. Yuan Zhang from the University of Exeter, and Mr. Wang Cheng from the China Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation.

The discussion explored the strategic and economic repercussions for Northeast Asia through an analysis of rising energy prices, disruptions to transcontinental trade and logistics networks, and the evolving dynamics of the Asian strategic landscape. Participants examined four key themes: security vacuums and strategic realignment, energy resilience and economic sustainability, security guarantees, and the fragmentation of global supply chains.

The roundtable concluded that the evolving regional environment requires Northeast Asian actors to pursue more diversified, resilient, and adaptive strategic partnerships in order to navigate emerging uncertainties and safeguard long-term stability and prosperity

This session reflects the Institute’s continued commitment to advancing strategic dialogue and international knowledge exchange, fostering a deeper understanding of contemporary security challenges, and supporting the development of integrated and forward-looking policy approaches.
