RSDI Highlights Hormuz’s Geopolitical Implication at TRENDS Strategic Dialogue

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – 03 June 2026: At the invitation of TRENDS Research and Advisory (TRENDS), Dr. Wan Zokhri Idris, Fellow Researcher and Assistant Professor at the Rabdan Security and Defence Institute (RSDI), shared his analysis on Hormuz’s Geopolitical Implication, examining evolving signs resulting from the US-Irael War on Iran.

The dialogue explored the evolving strategic, legal, economic, and security implications surrounding international maritime straits in the aftermath of the War on Iran. It also addressed the future of safe passage regimes, emergence of toll-based maritime practices, alternative trade corridors, and the increasing securitization of strategic pathways.

RSDI’s Dr. Wan Zokhri contributes to the panel by sharing 5 key considerations, after following closely the development of the Strait of Hormuz since February 28th, 2026. His considerations centralize on the fragility of world’s maritime chokepoints, interconnectivity of world economy, US-Iran endurance, maritime sovereignty and asymmetric warfare in the 21st century.

The discussion also brought together a distinguished group of experts and practitioners to explore the broader geopolitical, security, and strategic dimensions originating from state and regional actors.

The session was moderated by Gina Bou Serhal, Senior Researcher at TRENDS Group, and featured other prominent experts including Dr. Zahid Shehab Ahmed (National Defence College, UAE) and Dr. Andreas Reckhemmer (College of Public Policy, University of Sharjah).
